Manhunt Underway in Kanungu as Police Pursue Suspect in 28-Year-Old Man’s Alleged Assault and Murder

Police in Kanungu district have launched a manhunt for suspects accused of assaulting 28-year-old Ashrafu Namara, leading to his death.

The incident occurred on May 5, 2024, around 8 pm.

According to Tumushabe Aisha, the 57-year-old mother of the deceased and a resident of Kasiro cell, town ward, Kihihi town council, Kanungu district, her son was allegedly attacked by a group of seven individuals led by someone named Sadam. The tragic news reached her while she was attempting to board a bus to Kampala. During a phone call, her son conveyed to her that he was being killed by Sadam and six other boys from Rutenga village.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, reported that Namara was severely assaulted and later succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital. The police visited and documented the scene, recorded statements from witnesses, conducted a postmortem, and handed the body over to the relatives for burial.

Maate urged the public to assist in apprehending the suspects, who are currently at large. The case has been registered at the Kihihi police station under file number CRB 180/2024.
