A police sniffer dog in Kanungu District successfully tracked down two suspects accused of killing a 60-year-old woman after she was seen with a large sum of money.
The deceased, identified as Speria Mbabazi, was a resident of Kasiizi village, Muramba parish, Rutenga sub-county, Kanungu District. On May 26, 2024, around 07:00pm, she left Kakyere trading center. Approximately 150 meters from her home, she was ambushed and strangled with a piece of cloth.
Kigezi Region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate stated that Mbabazi was suspected to have had money because she had recently sold part of her land for 2 million UGX. He further says that She had been seen at the trading center with her biological son, Abel Tusasibwe, buying clothes and other items.
Maate revealed that the police were notified, and after visiting the scene with a sniffer dog, they managed to track and arrest two suspects who are now in custody to assist with the investigation.
A postmortem was conducted, and Mbabazi’s body was handed over to her relatives for a decent burial while investigations are ongoing according to Maate.
In a related incident on Monday this week, police sniffer dog also arrested Tulindwamukama Salva, a resident of Kanyantorogo cell, Kanungu District, on allegations of stealing a bunch of matooke.
