Teacher Arrested for Knocking Down Dead a 3-Year-Old juvenile in Kisoro

Police in Kisoro District are holding a motorist, Irakiza Isaac, a 33-year-old teacher at Nyanamo Primary School and resident of Igari Village, Rutaka Parish, Kirundo Sub-County, Kisoro District, who knocked down a 3-year-old juvenile, resulting in his death. 

The tragic incident occurred on June 11, 2024, at around 6 pm when a motorcycle, registration number UEP 475M, hit Arinda Benjamin, a 3-year-old male, as he attempted to cross the road at Kisharu Village, Rutaka Parish, Kirundo Sub-County, Kisoro District, along the Kisoro-Kirundo road.

 According to the police report, the motorist was riding from Kisoro towards Rutaka Health Centre 3 and, upon reaching Kisharu Village, encountered three children and their grandmother on the other side of the road. As the motorist approached, the deceased attempted to cross the road and collided with the motorcycle, sustaining serious injuries and dying en route to Rutaka Health Centre 3.

 ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, stated that the scene was visited by ASP Kushaba Michael, DTO Kisoro, and a team of police officers from Kisoro, Rubuguri Police, and Nyabwishenya, and that a sketch map was drawn, and PF48A and 48B forms were filled. 

Maate added that the suspect was arrested, and the motorcycle was recovered and parked at Kisoro CPS pending IOV inspection as inquiries into the matter continue.
