Three Arrested in Rukiga District for Murder of 47-Year-Old Woman

Police in Rukiga District have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of 47-year-old Peruth Tumuraze, a resident of Kateramabale Cell, Kyogo Parish, Kamwezi Sub-County, Rukiga District.

The suspects are Ivan Bangirana, Kenneth Muzoora, and Geoffrey Kemerwa, all from the same area.

According to a police statement, it is alleged that on August 3, 2024, at around 4 p.m., Peruth Tumuraze disappeared from her home due to domestic issues with her husband, Ivan Bangirana. On August 8, 2024, at around 7:30 a.m., her body was discovered in a banana plantation belonging to Geoffrey Kemerwa, approximately 800 meters from her home.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, informed our reporter that the police were alerted by Darius Asimwe, who promptly visited the scene. The scene was processed and documented, and a postmortem was conducted at Kamwezi Health Center IV.

Maate also stated that a panga was recovered from the scene and that the body had bruises on the head and neck, as well as a deep, dry wound on the back of the head.

Maate further asked citizens to always seek guidance from relevant offices and confirmed the arrest of the three suspects to assist with the investigation. He added that once investigations are completed, the suspects will be brought before the courts to face charges accordingly.
