The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, has called on Christians to embrace the power of forgiveness, a command that he noted is essential for those seeking God’s mercy. Speaking today at the confirmation service of 28 Christians at St. Matthew Bugarama Church of Uganda in Kizinga Archdeaconry, Bishop Akanjuna highlighted the words of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew 18:21, emphasizing that forgiveness brings inner peace, joy, and blessings.
“Once you forgive, you receive peace and happiness,” Bishop Akanjuna said. “Forgiveness grants health, breaks the chains of hunger, and opens doors for blessings for the entire family.” He encouraged the congregants to acknowledge their own shortcomings and follow Jesus’ example of forgiveness, which he noted is a path to healing both spiritually and physically.
The bishop also urged the newly confirmed Christians to embody their faith in daily life and to honor God’s commandments, setting a standard for others to follow in their communities.

Speaking at the same function, Hon. Flavia Kanaginzi, Speaker of Kabale District, spoke at the same event, calling on parents to guide their sons back to the church. She noted that while girls are actively involved in church activities, boys are increasingly absent, contributing to negative behaviors. Hon. Kanaginzi emphasized that church involvement could provide a positive influence for boys, as evidenced by the higher number of girls being confirmed today compared to boys.
“Today, we see that the number of girls confirmed is significantly higher than that of boys. It’s a clear sign that we need to actively engage our sons in the church,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of a strong moral foundation for youth.
