The Rukiga County legislator, Hon. Roland Ndyomugyenyi Bish, has urged parents today to prioritize their children’s education as a cornerstone for shaping future generations. His remarks were conveyed by his Personal Assistant, Chris Ainebyoona, during the annual Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting at Bukinda Secondary School, also known as Highland, in Nyabirerema parish, Bukinda Sub County of Rukiga District.
“As an alumnus of this school, I understand the transformative power of education,” Hon. Ndyomugyenyi stated. “If we want to see our children succeed and contribute meaningfully to society, education must be our top priority.”
Highlighting the Hon Bish Education Trust Fund’s initiatives, Hon. Ndyomugyenyi revealed that they currently sponsor 26 students at Bukinda Secondary School of the 106 from across the district currently enrolled under the program, underscoring their commitment to supporting education in the region.
He called for concerted efforts among parents, teachers, and the community to enhance school performance and increase enrollment rates. “Together, we can create an environment where every child has the opportunity to excel,” he added.
Addressing the gathering, Reverend Menace Turyatunga, the Archdeacon from Nyabirerema Church of Uganda, acknowledged the economic challenges faced by many families. “I know things are not easy economically, but as parents, we must set measures to clear our children’s fees and requirements,” Reverend Turyatunga said.
He encouraged parents to communicate openly with school administrators if they encounter difficulties in paying fees. “It’s important to come and talk to the school administrators rather than keeping quiet,” he emphasized, advocating for a collaborative approach to overcoming financial hurdles.
Jackline Ahimbisibwe, the school’s headmistress, applauded Hon. Ndyomugyenyi for selecting Bukinda Secondary School to benefit from the Hon Bish Education Trust Fund. “We are grateful for the 26 students whose school fees are covered by the legislator,” Ahimbisibwe stated. She underscored the legislator’s commitment to educating the younger generation, noting the positive impact this support has on the students and the school community.
Various parents speaking during the function acknowledged the need for further improvements at the school. They also noted the gradual progress being made, which is providing a calm and conducive environment for both learners and staff.
Hon. Ndyomugyenyi has also recently donated 5 million UGX towards the completion of the teachers’ staff houses and provided 5,000 textbooks to aid teachers with the new curriculum, further demonstrating his dedication to improving the educational infrastructure and resources at Bukinda Secondary School.
Bukinda Secondary School, founded by the Diocese of Kigezi, holds a special place in the community. It is the alma mater of the current Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, adding to its unique heritage and significance.
