Administrators at Buhumba Primary School are worried about the outbreak of infections due to inadequate sanitary facilities, caused by the overwhelming number of pupils at school.
The school, which has over 850 pupils, has only three latrines, which are in a deplorable state, causing worry for the administrators. Most of the latrines are full, sparking fears among the administrators.
Kyomukama Jackson, the headteacher of Buhumba Primary School, expressed deep concern over the unsanitary conditions at the school, which are negatively impacting the health and well-being of the students.
He revealed that due to the large number of students at the school, the existing sanitary facilities are overwhelmed, and he fears the potential consequences. He appealed to the government and stakeholders to construct a VIP pit latrine, which would significantly improve the hygiene standards at the school, providing a safe and clean environment for the pupils to attend school without worrying about their personal needs.
He also stated that the school has dilapidated buildings that need attention, citing that when it rains, pupils lack a place to study from.
