The belated Women’s Day celebrations in Rubanda District took an unexpected turn into a political rally, despite the Electoral Commission not yet officially opening the campaigns for the 2026 General Elections.
The event, which drew thousands from across the district, saw incumbent and aspiring political candidates seizing the opportunity to rally public support. Many attendees were spotted wearing T-shirts promoting various politicians and candidates even before the event officially began.
At around 12:30 PM, Rubanda District Women MP aspirant Jackline Katabazi made a dramatic entrance to the venue, heavily guarded by security personnel, with her convoy of supporters brandishing her posters. Later, at around 2:30 PM, incumbent Rubanda District Woman MP Prossy Akampurira Mbabazi arrived with her own convoy of supporters, who overpowered the security at a roadblock near the venue.
During his speech, Rubanda District Chairman Steven Ampaire Kasyaba introduced several politicians, including aspiring candidates, using the platform to endorse the Guest of Honor, Rubanda East MP Henry Musasizi Ariganyira, for the upcoming elections. Musasizi reciprocated by expressing his support for Kasyaba in the 2026 general elections, highlighting Kasyaba’s contributions to district development and service delivery.
