The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, has called on leaders to respect their superiors in their respective workplaces to foster harmony, cooperation, and prevent conflicts.
Bishop Akanjuna made these remarks today during the induction of Venerable Christopher Mashaija as the new Archdeacon of Kantare Archdeaconry at St. Paul’s, Kantare Church of Uganda.
Ven. Mashaija, who previously served as the Acting Archdeacon of Rwancherere Archdeaconry in Kabale, succeeds the Late Ven. Justus Akampurira, who passed away in March this year while still in service. Reverend Deus Nabaasa, the parish priest for Kitanga Parish, has been overseeing the Archdeaconry until the induction of Ven. Mashaija.
During the induction ceremony, Bishop Akanjuna urged both the new archdeacon and Christians to respect their superiors in their various roles to ensure a collaborative and peaceful working environment. He emphasized that mutual respect is key to the church’s and community’s development.
“Cooperation and respect at work are essential for the advancement of God’s work and the development of our communities,” Bishop Akanjuna stated.
He also encouraged Christians to engage in government initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM) to boost household income and eradicate poverty, ultimately contributing to the education of their children and the development of their communities.
While preaching during the function, Reverend Canon Amos Tweteise, the Archdeacon of Kikungiri Archdeaconry, echoed these sentiments, cautioning Christians against clashing with church leaders. He urged them to support their leaders to help spread the Christian ministry throughout the region.
“Ensure that your church leaders are well-supported; visit them and provide for them so they can be content and effectively preach the word of God,” Rev. Canon Tweteise said.
Rukiga County MP, Hon. Roland Ndyomugyenyi Bish, who officiated at the function, also called on Christians to work hard to increase their household income as a means of eradicating poverty.
Hon Ndyomugyenyi highlighted government programs aimed at extending electricity and solar power to rural areas in Rukiga and congratulated Ven. Christopher Mashaija on his induction as the new Archdeacon.
Ndyomugyenyi contributed a cow worth UGX 1 million to the new archdeacon, UGX 500,000 on behalf of Hon. Minister Henry Musasizi, UGX 500,000 towards the Diocese of Kigezi Voice of Victory Radio, and an additional UGX 500,000 for the purchase of uniforms for the Fathers Union.
Speaking on behalf of the Christians of Kantare Archdeaconry, Synod member Asimwe Jackson Rwamwehare highlighted the challenges facing the area, including poverty, diseases, and social discord.
The induction service was attended by several dignitaries, including District Woman MP Caroline Kamusime Muhwezi.
Kantare Archdeaconry includes the parishes of Bucundura, Kitanga, Kicucwe, and Ngoma.
