Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group Distributes 400 Mattresses to Vulnerable Communities in South Western Uganda

The Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group of South Western Uganda has begun distributing 400 mattresses to vulnerable groups across various districts in the region. The group, led by Peace Rugambwa, aims to support underserved communities in districts including Kabale, Rukiga, Kisoro, and Ntungamo.

During a gathering at Peace Rugambwa’s residence in Ntungamo District, Ms. Busingye Mangyeri, Vice Chairperson of the group, highlighted the impact of the donation. “We commend Peace Rugambwa for this generous donation and for supporting the rural communities,” Ms. Mangyeri said. She also addressed opposition to the group’s initiatives, declaring, “We condemn those fighting this project and we cancel all their agendas in God’s name. Thank you for remembering the rural people, Madam Peace.”

Mr. Sabiiti Rubegyemera, Chairperson of the Ntungamo District Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group, announced that the consignment of mattresses would primarily benefit the elderly and other needy individuals. “Today, we received 400 mattresses, donated by our Chairperson Peace Rugambwa, to distribute to those in need. This is in addition to recent provisions of bean and onion seeds aimed at increasing household income,” Mr. Rubegyemera noted, citing poverty reduction as a core goal of the group’s activities.

Ms. Loy Tibemanya, Chairperson of the Rukiga District branch of the group, expressed gratitude for the donation, stating, “We are thrilled to receive these mattresses, which will go to our elderly members. We thank Peace Rugambwa and President Yoweri Museveni for supporting these community developments.” She noted that the group has around 4,000 members in Rukiga District and urged others to join.

Ms. Aidah Twinobusingye, Chairperson of the group’s Disciplinary Committee, also thanked Peace Rugambwa, noting her ongoing contributions. “Recently, she donated 200 mattresses, 150 blankets, and bed sheets. Today, we have received 400 mattresses. Thank you, Peace, for your good deeds, and may God bless you abundantly,” she added.

Boona Bagaigahare Nyekundire Group was launched in Ntungamo in 2016 by Gen. Caleb Akandwanaho, also known as Salim Saleh, a younger brother to President Museveni, with officials from NAADS, the Microfinance Support Centre, and various Members of Parliament in attendance. The group has expanded across districts like Rukungiri, Kanungu, Rubanda, Mbarara, and Bushenyi, initially promoting onion farming and providing members with seedlings and livestock to improve livelihoods.

Despite its success, the group has encountered resistance from political leaders in some districts, particularly Rukungiri, where it has been met with challenges as it works to enhance the lives of its members.
