Business Relocations and Name Changes Challenge Revenue Collection in Kabale’s Southern Division

The Southern Division of Kabale Municipality is facing setbacks in revenue collection, largely due to frequent business relocations and name changes by local operators, according to Division Chairperson Kamusiime Maclean Batwale. Speaking at a budget conference held yesterday at the division headquarters in Mwanjari Ward, Kamusiime highlighted how these changes complicate tax assessment and tracking, impeding effective revenue collection.

Kamusiime explained that many businesses in the area alter their names or relocate when approached by revenue collectors, making it difficult for authorities to maintain accurate records. “The continuous shifting of business names and locations disrupts our records, leaving us unable to collect the necessary revenue effectively,” she noted.

She further emphasized the need for cooperation between business owners and local authorities to ensure adherence to tax obligations, advocating for greater transparency and accountability in business practices. Kamusiime encouraged business operators to support sustainable development in Kabale Municipality by embracing responsible financial practices and collaborating with tax authorities.

The Southern Division hopes that addressing these challenges will lead to improved revenue collection, essential for the division’s economic growth and development initiatives.
