Centenary Bank has extended its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts by donating two 10,000-litre water tanks to Masjid Jaamia Kirigime Mosque in Kabale Municipality and St. Charles Secondary School Kicumbi, located in Kitumba Sub County, Kabale District.

The donation comes as part of the bank’s commitment to addressing water challenges in these institutions and supporting their development.

The handover ceremony took place on Thursday, 10th October 2024, led by Rashid Musisi Ssemanda, Chief Manager Corporate and SME at Centenary Bank. Musisi acknowledged the long-standing relationship between the bank and the two institutions, emphasizing that they are valued customers.

“This donation aligns with our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda, aimed at improving the environmental and social well-being of the communities we serve,” Musisi remarked.

In addition to the water tanks, Musisi called on students and the wider community to adopt a saving culture to improve household incomes. “Saving is essential for financial growth, and we encourage everyone, especially students, to embrace it as a way to secure a better future,” he said.

The water tanks are expected to enhance water storage, promoting better hygiene and cleanliness in both the mosque and the school. St. Charles Secondary School Kicumbi, an O-level institution, has been grappling with water scarcity for some time.

According to the school’s head teacher, Nicholas Twinamatsiko, students had to walk about 7 kilometers to fetch water for use at the school, costing the institution over UGX 700,000 monthly. Twinamatsiko expressed relief and gratitude, noting that the tanks arrived at the perfect time to take advantage of the rainy season, allowing water to be collected from the school roof.

Sheikh Ibrahim Byomuhangi, the County Sheikh of Masjid Jaamia Kirigime, also expressed his appreciation to Centenary Bank for resolving their water challenges. He adds that the mosque, which also operates a school and a health center, will greatly benefit from the improved water storage facilities.

This donation is expected to have a lasting positive impact on the community by reducing water shortages and improving living conditions at both the mosque and the school.
