Counsel Elvis Twenda Calls on Parents to Engage Youth in Constructive Holiday Activities

Ndorwa County East Member of Parliament Hopeful Counsel Elvis Twenda, has today called upon parents to prioritize their children’s well-being during the school holidays. Speaking at various church events, Twenda urged parents to protect, guide, and involve their children in church and development activities, underscoring the value of constructive engagement during breaks from school.

Twenda’s day began at Nyabitabo Church of Uganda (COU) in Kaharo Parish, Kaharo Sub County, where he joined Christians for a thanksgiving service aimed at raising funds to build new washrooms for the church. He then attended a fundraising service at Katenga COU in Rwesasi Parish, Kizinga Archdeaconry, to support the completion of the church and the lay leader’s residence. Twenda ended the day at St Mary’s Bukinda Catholic Parish of Kabale Diocese, attending a confirmation service led by Monsignor John Vianney Sunday.

In an interview, Twenda emphasized the need for parents to closely monitor their children, especially as Primary Seven and Senior Four students have begun their holidays, with other classes soon to follow. He stressed that children should be safeguarded against negative influences like alcoholism, smoking, and other harmful behaviors, advocating instead for their involvement in educational and developmental activities. “Parents need to focus on their children’s safety and ensure they participate in community and church activities that promote discipline and focus,” Twenda stated.

To further his initiative, Twenda announced plans to distribute footballs and netballs to villages in the constituency, as part of his team’s effort to engage youth and holidaymakers in positive activities and develop local talent.

He also extended his best wishes to Senior Six candidates preparing for their upcoming exams, advising them to remain dedicated to their studies and focused on achieving their goals.

Speaking at the function at Katenga COU, Kabale District Speaker Flavia Kanagizi urged parents to lead by example and teach good values to their children, fostering responsible behavior that strengthens both family and community ties.

The church leaders expressed their gratitude for Twenda’s contribution and support, acknowledging his continuous engagement with the community and his commitment to fostering growth in Ndorwa County East.
