D/RDC Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha Urges End to Tribal and Religious Segregation in Kabale

Hon. Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (D/RDC) of Wakiso District, has called for an end to tribal and religious segregation, emphasizing its detrimental impact on community development.

Sheikh Kassim delivered these remarks today, Sunday, while speaking as the guest of Honor in the morning service at a thanksgiving and fundraising event held to raise funds for completing the newly constructed priests’ house at All Saints Church Kabale, located in Kabale Municipality.

Reflecting on his youth, Sheikh Kassim noted that it was once uncommon for a Muslim to speak at the pulpit of an Anglican or Catholic church, and it was virtually unheard of for a Sheikh to address a Christian congregation. He credited the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda for fostering this positive change through its commitment to unity, peace, reconciliation, and holistic human development via interfaith initiatives.

The D/RDC further stated that today, he feels welcomed to speak in any place of worship, whether a church or a mosque, highlighting the freedom of expression now enjoyed across different communities.

Sheikh Kassim urged the younger generation to view tribalism as a challenge to overcome, emphasizing that youth are the pillars of the nation. He encouraged them to move beyond tribal boundaries and backgrounds, which serve no purpose, and instead use their diversity as a foundation for building strength, stability, mutual appreciation, and unity.

He also called on the residents of Kabale Municipality to unite in their efforts to develop and uplift their community, aiming to make Kabale prosperous once again.

Sheikh Kassim, who has expressed his intention to run for Member of Parliament for Kabale Municipality in the 2026-2031 term, expressed gratitude to the Archdeacon of All Saints Church Kabale Archdeaconry in the Diocese of Kigezi for inviting him to be the guest of Honor at the event.

The Archdeacon of All Saints Church Kabale Archdeaconry, Ven. Emmanuel Namanya Bwaagyi, encouraged Christians to uphold truthfulness both in public and within their families, emphasizing that honesty is essential for building trust and respect.

In his sermon, Ven. Bwaagyi cautioned against lying, including through phone communication, warning that dishonesty can erode the respect of those around you. He reminded the congregation that even if society may sometimes pressure individuals to compromise their integrity, staying committed to the truth will ultimately preserve one’s dignity and self-respect
