Diocese of Kigezi Bishop Akanjuna Ordains 7 Reverend Deacons, Elevates 21 to Priesthood

The Diocese of Kigezi today held an ordination service at St. Peter’s Cathedral Rugarama, in the northern division of Kabale Municipality, where seven Reverend Deacons were ordained, and 21 others elevated to priesthood. The ceremony was presided over by the Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi.

Among the newly ordained priests were Rev. Frank Twikirize, Rev. Dickson Otin Tukamushaba, Rev. Junior Tugumisirize, Rev. Stephenson Anyorekyire, Rev. Deborah Tukamushaba, Rev. Warren Akatwijuka, and Rev. Timothy Niwamanya, among others.

In his sermon, the Archdeacon of St. Barnabas Nkoma Archdeaconry in the Diocese of East Ruwenzori, Rev. Can. Erasto Nemeyimana, underscored the critical role priests play in spreading the word of God. He called on the newly ordained clergy to use the divine power bestowed upon them to preach the Gospel with conviction and passion, reminding them of their sacred duty as messengers of God’s love, hope, and redemption.

“Priests are entrusted with the responsibility to not only teach the Gospel but also to live it out as an example for others,” Rev. Nemeyimana stated.

Speaking at the same event, the Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Prossy Akampurira Begumisa Mbabazi, emphasized the need for spiritual growth to go hand in hand with economic development. She challenged the newly ordained priests to preach both the Gospel of Christ and the “Gospel of Work.”

“While you lead people spiritually, remind them to engage in hard work to improve their livelihoods. Economic empowerment is essential for individuals, families, and communities to thrive,” Hon. Akampurira said.

She also urged the clergy to work closely with the government to promote a culture of hard work and household development.

In addition, Hon. Akampurira stressed the importance of education, urging parents to take their responsibility seriously in ensuring their children attend school. She highlighted that education is the key to success and an effective means of breaking the cycle of poverty.

“Education is the foundation upon which we can build our dreams and equip future generations to become productive citizens. It is the best gift we can give to our children,” she said.

The ordination ceremony attracted Christians from all over the Diocese of Kigezi and marked a significant step in the ministry for the newly ordained clergy.
