Diocese of Muhabura Condemns Child Abuse on World Children’s Day

As Uganda joins the world in celebrating World Children’s Day, the Diocese of Muhabura in Kisoro District has strongly condemned the mistreatment of children by adults.

Rev. Emmanuel Nsengiyunva, the coordinator for children’s ministry in the diocese, stated that they have launched initiatives to raise awareness among parents and guardians about proper child care.

He emphasized that children must be loved and provided with basic necessities to ensure their survival and development. He also warned parents against neglecting children enrolled in Universal Primary Education (UPE) by failing to provide them with adequate food and other essentials.

Rev. Habert Mujabwami, the diocesan education coordinator, condemned adults who violate children’s rights through acts such as defilement, rape, and neglect. He urged parents to collaborate with school authorities to equip children with better skills through education.

Mujabwami also highlighted the challenges children face due to a lack of guidance and counseling, particularly when they are at critical stages of choosing their career paths.

He called for collective efforts to address these issues and provide children with the support they need to thrive.
