Dr. Cosmas Mwikirize, the Superintendent of Industrial Value Chains Development at the Ministry of Science and Innovations, has urged students at Kabale University to become pioneers of innovation and seize opportunities in science, technology, and innovation (STI).
Speaking yesterday at the student exhibition during the Kab Open Day event held on the university’s sports ground, Dr. Mwikirize stressed the importance of fostering a culture of innovation. He encouraged students to identify gaps and challenges in the STI landscape and develop practical, creative technologies to address these issues.
Dr. Mwikirize highlighted the significant investments made by the government in STI development, revealing that the government has invested heavily in this area. He advised students to take advantage of these opportunities, utilize the available resources, and contribute to the growth of the nation.
He further emphasized using societal challenges as opportunities for innovation and problem-solving. He urged students to examine the market and identify potential opportunities for creating wealth through innovative solutions.
“Challenges in society present a chance for students to think outside the box and come up with groundbreaking ideas,” Dr. Mwikirize added. He encouraged students to be proactive in identifying problems and developing solutions that could address these issues and generate wealth.

Prof. Joy C. Kwesiga, the Vice Chancellor of Kabale University, underscored the significance of the university’s student innovation exhibition, as it provides a platform for students to showcase their hard work and achievements and serves as a source of inspiration for their peers.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized that by fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among students, encouraging them to think outside the box and develop new ideas, the university is preparing them for future challenges.
She also highlighted the importance of adapting to technological changes in today’s rapidly evolving world. “It’s crucial for students to stay ahead of the curve and be aware of the latest technological advancements,” she said. “By exposing them to cutting-edge technologies and encouraging them to develop their own innovations, we are preparing them for the challenges they will face in their future careers. However, she expressed that they face a challenge due to the lack of a channel or link for their students to advance their developmental innovations to the next level, ensuring they can be recognized.
