Four Suspects Arrested Over Alleged Assault and Death in Kabale

The territorial police in Kabale have arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged assault and subsequent death of Niwandinda Piason, a resident of Kyondo Village, Katenga Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-county, Kabale District.

The suspects have been identified as Tindiwegyi Jackline, 50, and Mathias Mashemeerwa, 28, both residents of Kyondo Village. Two additional individuals, whose identities have been withheld to safeguard ongoing investigations, are also in custody for questioning.

According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, the incident occurred on the evening of December 15, 2024, at around 8:00 PM. Preliminary reports indicate that Tindiwegyi Jackline and others, who are still at large, got into a confrontation with the deceased over undisclosed matters. The disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, during which Niwandinda was struck on the head with a blunt object, resulting in his immediate death.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, local residents alerted the area OC, who promptly informed the District CID Officer. The CID team responded swiftly, visited the scene, and conducted a thorough investigation. They processed and documented the crime scene, recorded statements from witnesses, and transferred the deceased’s body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
