The President of Green Environment Promotion (GEP), and Woman MP hopeful for Rubanda District Ninsiima Evelyn Kikafunda, has urged the public to prioritize their health through regular check-ups at health centers and hospitals to help prevent non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. Ninsiima stressed the importance of early detection to save lives and reduce unnecessary suffering.
She made these remarks today during the send-off ceremony of Sarafina Mirembe, the mother of Hope Radio journalist Libino Byamukama, at Rwakayundo Hiika, Hamuhambo Town Council, Bushuura Ward, Nyamiyaga Cell in Rubanda District. Sarafina, born on May 10th, 1961, is suspected to have succumbed to hypertension. She passed away on the morning of September 28th, 2024.
“Regular health check-ups can be life-saving, particularly in the early detection of conditions like hypertension and diabetes. Let’s not wait until it’s too late,” Kikafunda urged mourners. She reminded the public that preventative healthcare plays a crucial role in managing such illnesses before they become fatal.
In her eulogy, Kikafunda reflected on Sarafina’s life, describing her as a resilient woman whose love and dedication to her family has left a lasting legacy.

Sarafina was married to Posiano Rwanzingu, and together they raised eight children—two boys and six girls, 21 grand Children and 1 great grandchild. Among their children, only Libino Byamukama, a well-known presenter and journalist at Hope FM Radio Kabale, has not yet started a family.
Libino, who handles the programs “World Focus” and “Obunyakare” every Saturday and is an active member of the station’s editorial team, also runs an online channel, EYE Television.
Children expressed heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support. “Our mother was a pillar of strength, love, and resilience. She taught us the value of family, hard work, and unity. We will forever cherish her memory and continue to live by the principles she instilled in us,” he said.
The funeral Mass was led by Rev. Fr. Vincent Ankunda, the Parish Priest of Muchahi Catholic Parish, who comforted mourners with a message of faith. In his homily, Rev. Fr. Ankunda reminded attendees that “God is the giver and taker of life” and encouraged them to always be spiritually prepared for eternal life by living in accordance with God’s will. He stressed that one’s deeds on earth determine their afterlife, urging everyone to be grateful for the gift of life and to prioritize their spiritual health.
In his eulogy, Stephen Kasyaba, the Chairperson LCV for Rubanda District, called on the mourners to remain united in order to achieve great things as a community. He praised Libino Byamukama’s character, noting that the strong relationships he has built reflect the values of the family he comes from. Kasyaba urged parents to take inspiration from this and focus on raising their children with integrity and kindness.
The burial ceremony for Sarafina Mirembe was held at Rwakayundo Hiika, where family, friends, and community members gathered to pay their final respects from where her body was laid to rest at her ancestral home.
