The government has officially commissioned the construction of new facilities at Kabale Technical Institute in Rutooma Cell, Central Division, Kabale Municipality. The project, funded by the Islamic Bank and valued at UGX 11.2 billion, is expected to significantly enhance the infrastructure of the institution.
The ambitious construction project, awarded to a notable construction firm, includes the development of an administration block, student accommodation, staff houses, landscaping, fencing, and electrical extensions. The construction is slated to be completed within a period of 15 months.
During the site handover ceremony, however, a discrepancy was noted. It was discovered that the multipurpose hall and kitchen, which were part of the initial contract, were not included in the construction plans. According to Kabale District Resident Commissioner (RDC) Godfrey Nyakahuma and Mayor Sentaro Byamugisha, they were instructed to clear the old building themselves to accommodate the new kitchen and multipurpose hall, which they completed independently.
In response to these concerns, Hasaf Arineitwe, the Assistant Commissioner in Charge of Construction, assured that the project would proceed as planned. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to restoring the institute’s image and maintaining high construction standards. Arineitwe also urged the security team to monitor construction materials closely and encouraged the community to make the most of the improved facilities.
Kabale Technical Institute, a government institution, has long struggled with inadequate and deteriorating wooden structures, despite its 46 years of service. The new development is anticipated to provide a significant boost to the institute’s infrastructure and overall educational environment.
