Gudie Leisure Farm (GLF), a social enterprise dedicated to agribusiness development, is on a mission to raise 320 million shillings to purchase feed mill machines. This initiative aims to help youth-owned micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in Rubanda district add value to their agricultural products.
Speaking to our reporter, Prof. Gudula Naiga Basaza, the Founder and Managing Director of GLF, highlighted the untapped potential of over 12,000 youth from 16 parishes in Rubanda district. Currently, these young entrepreneurs sell raw materials despite having the capacity to produce animal feeds, a value-added product that could significantly enhance their incomes.
Prof. Basaza emphasized the importance of the fundraising drive, stating, “By acquiring feed mill machines, we can enable the youth to process their own animal feeds instead of buying them at high prices. This investment in advanced technology is crucial for improving productivity and unlocking the full potential of our youth in the agricultural sector.”
Bright Kato, the Rubanda District Gudie Leisure Farm Pela Chairperson, underscored the current challenges faced by the community. “There is no feed mill machine in the district, forcing us to travel to neighboring districts for animal feeds. This is both time-consuming and costly,” he said.
The initiative is expected to bring significant benefits to the local economy by reducing costs, saving time, and increasing the value of agricultural products. GLF’s efforts to secure the necessary funds for this project reflect a broader commitment to fostering sustainable development and empowering the next generation of agricultural entrepreneurs in Rubanda.
