Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament and Commissioner of Parliament, Hon. Prossy Akampurira Mbabazi, has donated 30 mattresses worth UGX 3.5 million and 30 bags of cement to Muchahi Catholic Parish in Bubaare Sub-county, Rubanda District.
The legislator made this contribution today while officiating at a thanksgiving event at St. Peter’s Muchahi Catholic Church, aimed at fundraising for the establishment of St. Peter’s Muchahi Secondary School, which is expected to begin operations next year. Hon. Prossy also represented the NRM Deputy National Treasurer, Hon. Jacqueline Kyatuheire, who had been invited as the Chief Guest for the event.
During the event, Hon. Prossy Akampurira Begumisa Mbabazi donated 30 mattresses to the Lay Apostolate groups under St. Peter’s Muchahi Catholic Parish. She said that these mattresses will provide much-needed comfort during the group’s conferences, contributing to their spiritual development and community discussions.
Hon. Prossy further explained that the Lay Apostolate groups, deeply involved in community outreach and development, will greatly benefit from the donation, as it helps alleviate logistical challenges during extended meetings, allowing participants to focus on their activities without discomfort.
“These mattresses are a small gesture to ensure that our parish groups can meet and work effectively, especially during night gatherings,” she said.
Several church leaders, including Vincent Twinomuhangi, the lay leader of Butobore Hiika, and Maria Gorette Tindimwebwa, expressed their gratitude, noting that this gesture would enhance the quality of their gatherings and boost participation. They also revealed that they had previously faced challenges due to a lack of proper sleeping arrangements during conferences.
Rev. Fr. Vincent Ankunda, the parish priest, appreciated Hon. Prossy for her continued support to Muchahi Catholic Parish, citing past contributions such as tiling the parish priest’s house (worth UGX 12 million), wiring, and providing electricity to the church, among others as well as the mattresses and cement to champion God’s work.
In addition to her support for the Lay Apostolate groups, Hon. Prossy donated 30 bags of cement to assist in the construction of St. Peter’s Muchahi Secondary School. This contribution is part of her ongoing efforts to promote education in Rubanda District, particularly in Bubaare Sub-county, which currently lacks a government-aided schools.
