“It’s High Time President Museveni Retires,” Warns PLU Leadership in Kabale

During a vibrant birthday celebration for Gen. Muhoozi Keinerugaba, who turned 50 today, leaders of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in Kabale Municipality issued a strong statement urging President Yoweri Museveni to step down and pass the leadership baton to the younger generation.

The Patriotic League of Uganda, an organization born out of the earlier MK movement, was officially launched this year in Masaka City. Under the leadership of Gen. Muhoozi Keinerugaba, currently the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), the PLU is dedicated to fostering a sense of good citizenship, national pride, and a commitment to combating corruption and protecting vulnerable communities across Uganda.

At the event, Henry Turinawe Wantanga, the PLU’s Kabale mobilizer, spoke emphatically about the necessity for a leadership transition. “President Museveni’s time to retire is fast approaching. We need a transition of power that promises continuity and stability,” Wantanga declared, advocating for Gen. Muhoozi, whom he described as a committed Pan-Africanist, to be his successor.

Questions about the likelihood of Gen. Muhoozi transitioning from military leader to president were met with confidence by Wantanga, who mentioned, “The general will retire from the army when the time is right, making him eligible to stand for the presidency.”

Paul Twinamasiko, Secretary General of PLU Kabale, echoed these sentiments, expressing optimism about Gen. Muhoozi’s potential candidacy. “Given his current responsibilities and leadership capabilities, we are hopeful that he will become our next president,” Twinamasiko stated.

The celebration also highlighted the local youth’s admiration for Gen. Muhoozi, with several leaders praising the younger generation’s involvement in the event. Sam Arinaitwe, Chairman of the Central Division, offered a prayer of thanks for Gen. Muhoozi’s life and achievements.

As the PLU continues to push for generational change in Uganda’s leadership, the political landscape remains attentive to these growing calls for President Museveni’s retirement and the possibility of a new era under Gen. Muhoozi’s leadership.
