The alumni of Kabale Bukinda Primary Teachers’ College, 2003/2005 class, launched a financial association on Saturday, October 19th, 2024, during a reunion held at New Vienna Guest House in Kabale Municipality, marking 19 years since they left the college.
Grant Ayebazibwe, the association’s chairperson and a current employee of Green Hills Academy in Rwanda—an institution owned by Rwanda’s First Lady, Janet Kagame—stated that the association aims to foster unity and build social capital among its members. He added that the association would support members during both challenging and joyful times, with a long-term goal of evolving into an academic-year Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO).

Ayebazibwe also criticized the Ugandan government for its stringent policies on teachers. He expressed concern over the government’s push for teachers to obtain bachelor’s degrees and the phasing out of Grade III teachers, without corresponding salary increases. He urged the government to recognize the value of teachers and improve their remuneration as a form of motivation.

Nathan Biryomumeisho, a former educator who transitioned into business, encouraged teachers to have a broader vision and invest in side businesses to avoid falling into the trap of excessive loans that hinder their financial growth.
