Kabale District Deputy RDC Andrew Ronald Bakaki Hands Over Office to Successor

The former Kabale District Deputy RDC Andrew Ronald Bakaki officially handed over his office to Christopher Aine, who joins from Mbarara District as the new Deputy RDC. Bakaki emphasized the importance of addressing pressing issues in Kabale, particularly land conflicts and concerns related to the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.

In a press briefing, Bakaki highlighted land conflicts as a significant issue in Kabale, noting that these disputes often lead to domestic violence. He explained that many of these conflicts arise between family members, with children frequently pressuring their parents over land issues. During his tenure, Bakaki reported handling over 1,700 land cases. Through reconciliation and counseling, he successfully resolved 126 of these conflicts.

Regarding the PDM program in Kabale, Bakaki revealed that upon his deployment, he discovered that some district officials were already in custody for misappropriating PDM funds. He noted that the issue had escalated from district officials to rural areas. Bakaki observed that parish chiefs were initially extorting money from beneficiaries, but after their arrest, similar practices continued through PDM Sacco leaders. He urged the incoming Deputy RDC to address these challenges within the PDM program.
