In a decisive move following yesterday’s unrest, the Kabale Municipal Council has mandated that the Kigali-Rwanda Cross Country Transporters Company must immediately return to the designated taxi park. This resolution comes in response to a peaceful demonstration by Kabale-Katuna road Taxi drivers, who accused the cross-country operators of violating transport rules and compromising security.
The decision was announced by Kabale District Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma, shortly after a council meeting held at Kabale Municipal Council in the Central Division, Kabale Municipality.
Nyakahuma stated that the council resolved to have the cross-country taxi operators vacate the bus park where they have been operating and return to the taxi park. He emphasized that their operations are similar to those of other taxis, as they drop off and pick up passengers in the same manner.
“The cross-country taxi operators should leave the bus park and return to the taxi park,” Nyakahuma declared. “Their work is like any other taxis because they drop off and pick up passengers just like taxis do.”
Nyakahuma further revealed that the council has resolved to provide the cross-country taxi operators with an office within the taxi park. This will ensure they have a designated area where they can park and wait for passengers. “In the meantime, they should be in the taxi park,” he added.

The council’s decision aims to address the concerns raised by local taxi operators, ensuring fair competition and adherence to established transport regulations. This move is expected to restore order and harmony within Kabale’s local transport operations.
