Hajji Issa Tindyebwa, the Chairperson of the Kabale Muslim District Supreme Council, has called upon President Yoweri Museveni to visit the Muslim headquarters in Kabale Municipality. The headquarters, strategically located between the Catholic and Anglican centers, has reportedly been overlooked during the President’s 36 years in office, despite repeated invitations.
Speaking at a one-day training workshop organized by the Kabale Muslim Supreme Council for Mosque and County/Twaale leaders, Tindyebwa expressed frustration at the lack of recognition for the Muslim community in the region.
“It is disheartening that despite our consistent efforts to invite the President, our headquarters have never been visited. We hope this changes soon,” he said.
Tindyebwa also appealed to local leaders for greater support, requesting Rukiga district LC5 Chairperson Mr. Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere to advocate for the inclusion of Rukiga Muslim Nursery and Primary School in government programs to ensure better funding and resources.
He further highlighted the lack of Muslim representation in the district service committee, urging the district leadership to prioritize religious balance. “Our community deserves equal representation to address its unique challenges effectively,” Tindyebwa added.
Sheikh Kaabu Lule, the Kabale district Kadhi, echoed similar sentiments, condemning the illegal acquisition of Muslim land in Rushebeya by wealthy individuals.
In response, Rukiga District RDC Zadoki Kamusiime pledged to write to the organizing committee, proposing a meeting between President Museveni and the Muslim community during the President’s anticipated visit to the Kigezi sub-region.
Kakwerere advised Muslims to expedite the process of securing titles for their land to prevent further encroachments. “Documented ownership is crucial in protecting community assets,” he emphasized.
The call for dialogue and action has set the stage for potential discussions about the challenges facing the Muslim community in the region, as leaders await the President’s response.
