Pensioners from the greater Kabale region, under their association, the Kabale District Pensioners Association, have expressed mounting frustration over the delayed disbursement of their full pensions. This concern was highlighted today during their annual general meeting held at the Kabale National Teachers College in Central Division of Kabale Municipality.
Several pensioners, speaking anonymously, revealed that despite having been on pension for fifteen years, they have yet to receive their full entitlements. The chairperson of the association, Silver Baguma, stated that the government has not provided an explanation for the delay. He noted that pensioners in other districts have received their full pensions, adding to the discontent among Kabale pensioners.
Baguma also called on the service commission to ensure that pensioners’ salaries are increased in line with the provisions of the Constitution of Uganda, Article 254, Sections 1-3. He emphasized that pensioners should benefit from salary increments given to other government workers, a practice that is currently not being followed.

In a speech delivered by Namanya Emmy on behalf of the Kabale District Chief Administrative Officer, Kalyesula Fred, pensioners were informed to prepare for an upcoming verification of their documents. Fred explained that the government aims to ensure the accuracy of their payment system and needs to update the current details of each pensioner.
Fred assured the pensioners that the verification process is crucial for the government to ensure they are paying the correct individuals, signaling an effort to streamline the pension payment system.

The pensioners remain hopeful that the verification process will address the issues and lead to the timely disbursement of their full pensions, as they continue to seek clarity and justice regarding their entitlements.
