The Police in Kabale District have today issued a stern warning against individuals impersonating traffic officers and extorting money from motorists and boda boda riders along the Bunyonyi-Kiyoora road and the Kabale-Katuna road.
Motorists and boda boda riders using these roads have reported that individuals dressed in traffic police uniforms have been stopping them and demanding money, particularly in cases involving missing driving permits, overloading, or other traffic offenses. However, no receipts are issued after the payments.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, confirmed that the police are aware of the situation and are taking necessary measures to apprehend the culprits.
Maate urged the public to report such incidents directly to the police instead of posting them on social media, as this does little to resolve the problem.
He further emphasized that once arrested, the suspects will be prosecuted in court to face the full force of the law.
