The Head Teacher of Kabale Primary School (DEMO) in Kabale Municipality, Nelson Byomuhangi, has expressed concern over the safety of learners who eat lunch from home, saying that the school is finding it challenging to manage the safety of these learners, particularly during lunch breaks where some are involved in accidents.
He was today speaking at the school grounds during the Parents Concert Day, where learners entertained their parents in different Musical, dance and drama events, as they also officially closed the third academic term.
Byomuhangi said that in the just-concluded academic term, the school recorded seven cases of pupils injured in accidents while rushing back to school from home after lunch. He added that in the same term, the school registered 794 pupils to get lunch at school and a total of 345 pupils get lunch at their respective homes, yet those who eat at the school pay only 63000 shillings reflecting 700 shillings per day. He added that if children eat with others at the school they can get enough rest after lunch to start afternoon classes.
