Hon. Catheline Ndamira Atwakiire, the Kabale District Woman MP, has called upon Christians, especially the youth, to take care of essential documents such as National Identity cards, Baptism certificates, and education certificates. Her appeal came during a confirmation Mass held at Rwanyena Catholic Parish, where 384 Christians, including 104 boys and 280 girls, were confirmed into the Catholic faith by Rt. Rev. Bishop Callist Rubaramira of Kabale Diocese.
Addressing the congregation, Hon. Ndamira emphasized the importance of safeguarding these vital documents for participation in government programs and accessing essential services like healthcare. She urged the newly confirmed Christians to register for National IDs, which she described as crucial for engaging in various government initiatives and services.
Furthermore, Hon. Ndamira encouraged the newly confirmed to remain strong in their faith, defend and be proud of their Catholic identity. She also continued to promote income-generating projects for financial stability, illustrating how small ventures, such as rearing pigs or goats, can provide a source of school fees and other financial needs. “When you have a pig or a goat, you can sell it and pay for school fees,” she noted, encouraging the community to embrace such initiatives for self-sufficiency.
During his homily, Rt. Rev. Bishop Callist Rubaramira called on the confirmed Christians to stay close to Jesus, trust in him, and make him their guide in all aspects of life. He also stressed the importance of teamwork, prayer, and hard work in fostering development. The bishop urged the community to register for and renew their National IDs as part of their civic responsibility.
Bishop Callist also commended Hon. Ndamira for her unwavering support of the diocese, particularly in fostering financial sustainability. He encouraged the congregation to continue backing her development efforts, which have significantly contributed to income generation within local families.
Rev. Fr. Musinguzi Deus, the parish priest of Rwanyena Catholic Parish, echoed the sentiments of the bishop, praising Hon. Ndamira for her contribution toward the near-completion of the church’s construction. He also urged the confirmed Christians to prioritize sanitation, beginning within their homes, as part of their commitment to their faith and community.
In a special plea to parents, Fr. Deus highlighted the need to pay equal attention to the boy child, expressing concern over the lower number of boys being confirmed and attending school. He called for a collective effort to ensure both boys and girls are given equal opportunities in education and spiritual growth.
The confirmation Mass, which was a significant spiritual milestone for the 384 Christians, also served as a platform for promoting values of faith, hard work, and sustainable development within the Kabale community.
