Parents at Kamuroko High School in Maziba Sub-County, Ndorwa East, Kabale District, have raised concerns over the government’s failure to construct any buildings at the institution since its establishment in 1982, despite the school being government-aided.
The concerns were voiced during the PTA Annual General Meeting held today Saturday at St. Andrew’s Kamuroko Church of Uganda. James Tumwine, the Chairman of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA), expressed disappointment over the lack of government intervention in constructing classroom blocks or other essential infrastructure.
Tumwine noted that, aside from providing 15 government teachers, books, and 40 computers, the government has not contributed to building classroom blocks or toilets at the school. He revealed that the current classrooms and school land were financed entirely by parents. Additionally, several teachers at the school are privately hired and paid by parents, placing a financial strain on the community.
Tumwine lamented that the government has never built a classroom block or even a toilet here. He said that what they have was built by parents, and the land where the school stands was also bought by parents. It is disappointing that since 1982, no visible infrastructure has been provided by the government.

He also mentioned that in 2012, the school’s management committee met with officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports at Rushooroza, where promises were made to construct classroom blocks. However, over a decade later, no progress has been made.

The head teacher of Kamuroko High School, Tumuhimbise Franco, highlighted the dire state of the school’s infrastructure. With an enrollment of 320 students and only 15 government-paid teachers, the school struggles to meet its learners’ educational needs.
Tumuhimbise appealed to the government to construct new classroom blocks and increase the number of teachers on the government payroll. He emphasized that the current resources and infrastructure are insufficient to provide quality education.
he said they urgently need new classroom blocks. The structures we have are in a sorry state, and the few government teachers are not enough to handle the number of learners.
