Police in Kanungu District are hunting for unknown people responsible for the murder of a 40-year-old man pygmy, whose body was found lying along Karukara Road.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate identified the deceased as David Kacucu, a pygmy a resident of Kegoma Cell, Kihembe Parish, Kanyantorogo Sub-County, Kanungu District. Kacucu’s body was discovered on the morning of November 25, 2024, along Karukara Road.
According to reports, at around 8:20 a.m., passersby spotted a lifeless body lying by the roadside and immediately alerted the area LC1 of Rukarara Cell, who then informed Kanyantorogo Police. The Kanungu Central Police Station was subsequently notified.
Maate stated that police officers visited the scene, documented the case, and confirmed the deceased’s identity through his relatives, who recognized him as a member of the Batwa community (Omutwa). The body was transported to Kihiihi Health Center mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The police spokesperson has urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead provide any information that could assist in identifying the suspects. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice through legal means.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
