CPA Rollings Matsiko Nyesigomwe, the Managing Partner at Ronye Associates, has urged the current and former students of Muhanga Progressive Secondary School to cooperate and support each other to develop the school. He made this call today during the finals of the 3rd Edition of the Ronye Cup at Nyikunama Primary School playground in Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga District.
Various final games were played, including volleyball, netball, and football. The volleyball match saw Senior Four (S4) triumph over Senior Three (S3) with a score of 2:3. In netball, S4 clinched victory against Senior Two (S2) with a close score of 12:11. The football match concluded with Senior Five (S5) emerging as champions, defeating S4 with a score of 2:1.
Speaking at the event, CPA Rollings, an alumnus of the school, highlighted the aims of sponsoring such tournaments at Muhanga Progressive School, which include uplifting talents and ensuring success not only in academics but also in sports. He emphasized their commitment to continuing support for the tournament annually and announced plans to establish the Ronye Academy to further nurture and support talented individuals. “Our goal is to uplift the talents and ensure success not only in academics but also in sports, securing the first position in the whole of Rukiga,” he said.
James Twijukye, the mayor of Muhanga Town Council applauded the commitment of the sponsor, CPA Rollings, noting that it signifies the future success of sports in Rukiga and Uganda at large. He also requested community members to support the school and its programs to ensure its success. Twijukye encouraged the students to work hard and nurture their talents, emphasizing the crucial role sports play in personal growth and community development.
While addressing the gathering, the head teacher Baker Twongirwe thanked CPA Rollings for his tireless efforts further thanking the students for their coordination throughout the tournaments success. He highlighted the school’s improving academic performance, noting the last years high achievements in O-level with 13 aggregates in 8 subjects and in A-level with 17 points, with a student admitted to Makerere University for a land surveying course.
Twongirwe also acknowledged the financial challenges faced by the school but expressed satisfaction with the steady progress in implementing the new academic curriculum, which emphasizes practical learning and real-world applications.
According to the head teacher, the school currently has an enrollment of over 600 students in both A and O levels, with a tremendous annual increase in the number of students.
The Ronye Cup tournament at Muhanga Mixed Progressive Secondary School takes place annually, and the winners receive a prize of 500,000 shillings and a cow to facilitate their celebrations.
The Ronye Cup 3rd Edition has been a true celebration of sportsmanship and camaraderie, bringing together students, alumni, and sports enthusiasts in a spirit of unity and healthy competition. Yesterday, the team supported the school with a 10,000-liter tank to address the water challenge due to the school’s hilly location.
