The NICA Foundation, a non-governmental organization, is changing lives in Rubaya Sub-County, Ndorwa West, Kabale District by providing essential resources to local schools. Recently, the foundation supplied water reservoir tanks, scholastic materials, and sanitary equipment, bringing a renewed sense of hope to both students and educators in this rural region.
Noah Mubangizi, the managing director and a board member of the NICA Foundation, highlighted the organization’s mission to ensure that underprivileged learners have better access to education. Mubangizi noted that Rubaya’s mountainous terrain makes commuting to school a significant challenge for many children, particularly affecting school attendance and completion rates. The foundation, he shared, aims to bridge this gap and improve the educational experience for all.
“As a board member of NICA Foundation, I’ve seen the need for targeted support here,” Mubangizi remarked. “We’re here to help children complete their education, and we encourage girls, especially, to focus on their studies, as it holds the key to their future.”

In an interview with our reporter, Muyambi Jussy, the headteacher of Kitoma Primary School, praised the foundation’s work, stating that the resources provided have greatly improved their school environment, aligning with government efforts to enhance education in underserved areas. The NICA Foundation’s support, he said, has contributed to increased enrollment and better retention rates among students.
However, he highlighted that the school still faces challenges with limited staffing and inadequate accommodations for teachers. He urged the government to support these ongoing needs to ensure sustainable improvement in the educational outcomes for Rubaya’s students.
