Ndorwa County East MP hopeful, Counsel Elvis Twenda, has today urged Christians to prioritize family responsibility during a thanksgiving function at Kigata Church of Uganda in Kyanamira sub-county.
Twenda emphasized that community progress is directly linked to the well-being of individual families, saying, “Our communities will develop if our families are doing well.”
Twenda addressed the congregation during the celebration of St. Peter’s Day, marking the completion of the church’s construction. He highlighted the significant role men play in their families and communities, stating that men often contribute to domestic issues such as violence, poverty, and alcoholism. He challenged men to become more responsible and engaged in their families and communities to foster development.
“Men have not been as involved in church activities as women, especially in the past. However, I commend the recent increase in men’s participation. This involvement should be a platform for further developing both families and communities,” Twenda said. He emphasized, “As men, we are the leaders and direction of our families. If we become lazy and irresponsible, our families and communities will see no development. We must work hard for our families to thrive.”
Twenda also urged parents to prioritize their children’s education, highlighting its importance in shaping a brighter future for the next generation.
In support of the church and its community projects, Twenda donated UGX 500,000 for the thanksgiving event and an additional UGX 500,000 to the Fathers Union for their development initiatives. He also provided two sets of jerseys and footballs to enhance the church’s sports activities as well as pledged 20 bags of cement.
Andrew Mugira, the chairperson of the Fathers Union at Kigata Church of Uganda, praised the increased involvement of men in church activities, a significant change from the past. He expressed optimism that the Fathers Union would help men develop themselves and their communities. Mugira also thanked Twenda for his generous contributions to the church’s construction project and the men’s development initiatives.
The celebration of St. Peter’s Day concluded with a spirited football match between the Fathers Union and Christian men at Kigata Playground. The Christian men secured a 1-0 victory in a game that saw active participation from Twenda and attracted hundreds of spectators.
