PAG Bishop Emeritus Tumwijukye Challenges Government to Acknowledge Church’s Role in Nation-Building

Bishop Emeritus James Tumwijukye of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) Kabale Church Central has expressed concern over the government’s failure to fully recognize the church’s contributions to nation-building. He made the remarks on Friday, January 10, 2025, during the 5-day PAG Missions Arise Revival Conference held at the church premises in Kigongi, Central Division, Kabale Municipality.

In his sermon, Tumwijukye revealed that he had previously confronted the State Minister for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Hon. David Bahati, about the government’s lack of acknowledgment of the church’s efforts. He warned that the government would be accountable to God for its neglect.

“The church plays a critical role in healing the sick and reducing the government’s medical expenses. Yet, our contributions remain largely unnoticed,” Tumwijukye stated.

He criticized government officials for spending taxpayer money on medical treatment abroad, arguing that many health issues are resolved through prayer in the church. Tumwijukye highlighted the story of a woman healed in their church after unsuccessful treatments in Uganda, Kenya, and other countries.

While acknowledging the existence of impostors within some churches, Tumwijukye defended the integrity of the majority, emphasizing the church’s vast potential to complement the government’s development efforts.

In attendance was Kabale District Woman MP, Hon. Atwakiire Catherine Ndamira, who commended the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for upholding freedom of worship. She compared Uganda’s policies favorably to countries like Rwanda, where such freedoms are restricted.

As a gesture of support for the conference, Hon. Ndamira contributed UGX 1 million, lauding the PAG Church for its dedication to spiritual and social transformation in the region.

The 5-day PAG Missions Arise Revival Conference continues to draw hundreds of faithful, offering a platform for spiritual renewal and community-building initiatives.
