The Parish Priest of St. John’s Bugongi Church of Uganda, Rev. Henry Nzaana, has called on parents in Kigezi to prioritize education as the region’s key source of household income.
Rev. Nzaana made the appeal yesterday during the thanksgiving ceremony of God’s Favor Nursery and Primary School, held at St. John’s Church of Uganda Parish in Northern Division, Kabale Municipality.
In his closing remarks, Rev. Nzaana emphasized that unlike regions such as Ankole, where cattle farming provides a stable source of livelihood, Kigezi lacks similar resources. He asserted that investing in education is the most viable solution to combating poverty in the region.
“Education is the only wealth that can save us from poverty. Let us embrace it for the betterment of our households and the region,” Rev. Nzaana said.
The event also saw Saturday Collins Kahesi, the proprietor of God’s Favor Nursery and Primary School, urging men to actively support education. Kahesi highlighted the importance of fathers attending school meetings and monitoring their children’s learning conditions, noting that many men stop at paying school fees and leave the rest of the responsibility to their wives.
“Education is a shared responsibility. Men must get involved beyond financial support to ensure a bright future for their children,” Kahesi emphasized.
The thanksgiving ceremony raised over one million shillings, which will contribute to the completion of the church construction.
The event was well attended, with community members and church leaders expressing gratitude for the milestone in fostering education and faith development in the region.
