Parliament Commissioners Hon. Prossy Akampulira Mbabazi and Hon. Silwany Solomon have called for united efforts and active community participation in government programs to drive local development. The two legislators made these remarks today Sunday 27th October 2024 in Rubanda District at a Thanksgiving Function held at Ikamiro Church of Uganda Parish in Muko Archdeaconry, Diocese of Kigezi, aimed at raising funds for the completion of the church.
The event, presided over by Rev. Canon Milton Nkurunungi the Diocesan Secretary for the Diocese of Kigezi, brought together community leaders and residents. Amos Biryomumeisho, the chairperson for the church’s construction committee, revealed that the church requires 115 million shillings to complete terrazzo flooring and glass the windows.
Speaking during the function, Hon. Prossy Akampulira Mbabazi, the Rubanda District Woman MP who doubles as a Parliamentary Commissioner, urged Christians to support government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga and Youth Livelihood Program among others. She emphasized that PDM and other initiatives, like her Prosperous Women Rubanda (PWR) program, are vital for improving household incomes and empowering rural women.
“PWR is now fully recognized by the government, and more funding will soon be injected into it to improve women’s livelihoods,” Hon. Prossy said.
She also stressed the importance of education, urging parents to prevent early marriages and keep their children in school. “The holidays are near, but please ensure your children focus on their studies and not marriage,” she advised.
Hon. Prossy contributed 3.2 million shillings towards the church’s flooring, asking leaders to use the funds for purchasing cement.
While officiating at the function, Hon. Silwany Solomon, MP for Bukooli Central praised the community’s effort to build a “state-of-the-art church,” noting that it reflects the glory of God. He echoed Hon. Prossy’s message on education, urging parents to invest in their children’s future.
“Supporting leaders like Hon. Prossy Mbabazi will ensure continued development for Rubanda, as she possesses excellent lobbying skills,” Hon. Silwany added.
He donated 10 million shillings to the church project.
In his closing remarks, Rev. Canon Milton Nkurunungi expressed gratitude to the commissioners for their contributions and urged the congregation to remain united in both faith and community development.
The event underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between the government, the church, and local communities to foster progress in the region.
