Police Investigate Fatal Accident in Kisoro Involving Congolese Nationals and Unidentified Victim

The territorial police in Kisoro District are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that claimed the lives of two people, including a Congolese national, and left five others injured. The tragic incident occurred on August 27, 2024, at around 8:30 AM in Kagano village, Muhindura Parish, Kanaba Sub County, along the Kisoro-Kabale road.

The deceased have been identified as Katmbo Kisinziro, a resident of Butembo in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and an unidentified female adult. The identities of the five injured victims and the driver have not yet been established.

The accident involved a black Toyota Noah with registration number CGO 9777AB/07, which was traveling from Butembo, DR Congo, carrying seven passengers to Goma. According to police, the vehicle was moving at high speed when it approached Kasheregenyi trading center in Kagano village, Kanaba Sub County. The driver reportedly failed to negotiate a corner, causing the vehicle to overturn several times and land in a valley 150 meters from the road. Two passengers died on the spot, while five others sustained injuries.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and cited speeding and reckless driving around corners as the primary causes of the accident. Maate also noted that a team of officers, led by ASP Kushaba Michael, the District Traffic Officer (DTO) of Kisoro, visited the accident scene. The injured victims were rushed to Kisoro Hospital and Mutolere Hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the Kisoro Hospital mortuary.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
