Police Investigate Fatal Road Accident on Kabale-Kisoro Highway

Police in Rubanda District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 33-year-old man who died on the spot in a road accident along the Kabale-Kisoro highway.

The deceased, identified as Michael Mpakaniye, a boda boda rider and resident of Gahunga Village, Nyakabungo Parish, Chahi Sub- County in Kisoro District, was involved in a fatal crash on Friday, September 27, 2024, at around 2:30 p.m. 

According to a police statement, the accident occurred at Kyimusa “B” Village Ihanga Parish Bubaare Sub- County Rubanda District, along the Kabale-Kisoro highway. Mpakaniye, who was riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UEX 266G, was reportedly traveling from Kisoro to Kabale when he veered out of his lane and collided with an Isuzu Elf truck, registration number UBH 310C, white in colour, which was traveling in the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision caused the motorcycle rider to die instantly, while the truck driver, known by his nickname “Deacon,” sustained injuries after the vehicle overturned. The rest of the passengers aboard the truck escaped unharmed.

The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate,  informed journalists today evening  that the scene was visited and documented by police officers. A breakdown vehicle was called in to tow both the motorcycle and the truck to Rubanda CPS yard for inspection.

Maate  added that investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
