Residents of Mukaragye ward, located within Katuna Town Council in Kabale District, voiced their distress over the absence of a local health center, which they claim is jeopardizing the lives of expectant mothers. During a piggery distribution event organized by Kabale District Woman MP Hon. Atwakiire Catherine Ndamira on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, community members led by Batarijuna Alfred, chairperson of Hakabungo cell, expressed their urgent concerns.
Mukaragye ward, encompassing six villages, reportedly faces significant challenges due to the lack of accessible healthcare facilities. Residents highlighted the difficulties in traveling to nearby health centers in Kamuganguzi, emphasizing the financial burden of motorcycle transport, which costs 10,000 shillings per trip—a steep expense for many low-income earners.
Batarijuna Alfred underscored the community’s frustration, noting that their appeals for a local health facility, made through formal petitions in 2019, have yet to yield results. He pointed out that the few private clinics in the ward are often ill-equipped, lacking essential medicines and proper care standards.

Bruce Arineitwe, vice chairperson of Rdyaruhinda cell, and Phionah Amanya, a resident of Hakabungo Village, echoed these sentiments, particularly highlighting the heightened risks during nighttime emergencies when immediate transportation is scarce.

The situation in Mukaragye ward underscores the critical need for governmental intervention and community support to establish a local health center, ensuring timely access to healthcare services and safeguarding the well-being of expectant mothers and residents alike.
