Rotary Club of Kampala South Supports Mushroom Farming Skilling to Empower Kabale Women

In a bid to boost local agriculture and enhance livelihoods, Allen Kiiza, Head of the Mushroom Training and Resource Centre in Kyanamira Sub County, Kabale District, has called upon households to embrace mushroom growing. This call comes amidst a growing demand for mushrooms both locally and beyond, urging communities to diversify their agricultural activities.

Kiiza emphasized the economic benefits of mushroom cultivation during a ceremony where certificates were awarded to 15 girls and women from Kabale who completed training at the centre, supported by Kampala South Rotary Club. He highlighted the current shortfall in local mushroom production, necessitating purchases from districts like Bushenyi and Kampala to meet local demand.

“With the increasing demand for mushrooms in Kabale and neighboring areas, it’s crucial for households to consider mushroom farming as a viable option. This not only supports local agriculture but also enhances economic stability for families” said Kiiza.
