Rubanda District University Students Launch Development Association to Boost Community Wellbeing

As a step towards community development and empowerment, university students from Rubanda District launched the Rubanda University Students Development Association (RUSDA). The event, held yesterday 8th at Rubanda Town Council Headquarters, featured various activities including HIV testing, blood donation, empowerment lectures, and the distribution of sanitary pads to women.

Obed Mutatina Kitabutuka, the District Councilor representing Bubaare Town Council, spoke on behalf of the State Minister for Finance, Hon. Henry Musasizi who was the Chief Guest. He commended the association’s efforts, highlighting how such initiatives contribute to the district’s health and welfare, ultimately boosting the local economy.

Kitabutuka encouraged the association to complete its registration and meet all necessary requirements to benefit from government programs. Emphasizing the importance of youth involvement, he urged RUSDA members to tap into the Youth Livelihood Program and other governmental support structures. He also invited the association to use district offices to enhance their activities and improve household incomes.

Laurensio Tumwijukye, the chairperson of RUSDA, outlined future projects, including the establishment of a savings and credit cooperative (SACCO). He says that this initiative aims to provide loan services and business ideas to members and the wider community, mobilizing the youth of Rubanda District to uplift themselves and their surroundings.

Alex Nkwasibwe from the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service explained the inclusion of blood donation in the event, stressing the perpetual need for blood in medical treatments. He emphasized the irreplaceable nature of human blood, which no machine can replicate.

RUSDA’s launch was supported by partnerships with Kigezi Teens Magazine, Gaspasi Foundation Uganda, and Peak FM Kabale.
