Rubanda District Woman MP, Hon. Prossy Akampulira Mbabazi, has urged parents to prioritize their children’s education and overall well-being. She made these remarks while officiating a fundraising event at Ihunga Primary School in Ihunga ward of Nshanjare Town Council aimed at raising funds for the construction of a new three-classroom block.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Akampulira emphasized the government’s responsibility to ensure quality education in schools but also called upon parents to play a vital role in supporting their children.
She encouraged parents to unite and work together for community development, stressing the importance of taking good care of their children and raising them in a Godly manner. “Parents should be role models for their children,” she stated, adding that proper upbringing requires close cooperation between parents and teachers.
She also highlighted the importance of providing students with basic school supplies and packing food for them to eat during school hours, ensuring that they are well cared for both academically and physically.

During the event, Johnson Akampulira, the school’s head teacher, revealed the challenges the school is currently facing due to the growing number of students, which has now surpassed 1,000. He explained that the current classrooms accommodate over 100 pupils per room, far exceeding the Ministry of Education’s recommended standard of 52 pupils per classroom. He also lamented the shortage of teachers, as only 12 teachers are responsible for the 1,085 students enrolled at the school.

In her contribution, Hon. Akampulira donated UGX 2.5 million and presented UGX 1 million on behalf of Rubanda West MP, Hon. Moses Kamuntu. She expressed her appreciation for the community’s generous support, which is crucial to achieving the fundraising goal for the new classroom block, estimated to cost UGX 30 million.
The event saw former students, local residents, and well-wishers come together to raise the necessary funds, underscoring the community’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure for future generations.
