Rubanda District Woman MP and Parliamentary Commissioner, Hon. Prossy Mbabazi Akampurira, has praised Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, for his unwavering commitment to promoting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and President Museveni’s agenda of poverty eradication at the household level.
Speaking today at the Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF) for Rubanda Deanery held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Kiizi-Rubanda Parish, Hon. Akampurira lauded Bishop Rubaramira for leading by example in championing poverty eradication projects in the diocese. She emphasized his role in encouraging communities to engage in various income-generating activities at the household level to uplift their livelihoods.
“The Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund is not only about mobilizing resources for diocesan projects but also about fostering unity among communities, bringing people together to work towards shared goals,” Hon. Akampurira said, commending the Bishop for his transparency in accounting for all BAAF initiatives.
She further pledged her support, along with Rubanda County West MP Hon. Moses Kamuntu and his brother Sunday Emmanuel, to back parishes in Rubanda District with start-up capital aimed at increasing household income.
In his remarks, Hon. Moses Kamuntu hailed Bishop Rubaramira for his developmental leadership within the diocese and emphasized the importance of prioritizing household income generation.
Rt. Rev. Callistus Rubaramira urged Christians to intensify efforts to improve household incomes. He encouraged parents to involve their children in income-generating projects, including agriculture, by allocating them land for cultivation.
The Bishop also cautioned against misuse of government funds, such as those from the Parish Development Model (PDM), for non-productive activities like polygamy. Instead, he urged beneficiaries to invest in ventures that promote economic growth and self-reliance.
During the event, Hon. Akampurira contributed UGX 1 million to each of the six parishes under Rubanda Deanery and added UGX 4 million from her family, totaling UGX 10 million towards this year’s BAAF. Hon. Moses Kamuntu contributed UGX 5 million through Kamuntu Investments Limited, pledged UGX 7 million for the BAAF Kampala fundraiser, and committed an additional UGX 20 million for the BAAF climax event.
Christians from Rubanda Deanery collectively raised a remarkable UGX 232,125,300 in both cash and pledges to support the 2024 Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund.
