Rubanda District Woman MP who doubles as Uganda’s Parliamentary Commissioner, Hon. Prossy Akampulira, has implored young individuals especially the youth to refrain from pressuring their parents into selling land for financial gain, particularly for the purchase of motorcycles used for Boda-Boda transportation services. Hon. Prossy’s call comes amidst rising concerns over the alarming trend of youth resorting to extreme measures, including violence against their parents, to fulfill their desires.

Speaking during the burial service of the Late Norah Baryahisahe at St. James Muko Church of Uganda, Hon. Prossy emphasized the gravity of the situation, urging the youth to prioritize respect and familial harmony over material possessions. She expressed deep concern over reports of youth coercing their parents into selling ancestral land, a precious asset often integral to family heritage and sustenance.

“The youth must understand the sanctity of family bonds and the irreplaceable value of ancestral land,” remarked Hon. Prossy. “Pressuring parents into selling land, often through coercive means, not only jeopardizes family unity but also risks irreversible harm to the very foundations of our communities.”
