Hon. Prosy Akampurira Begumisa Mbabazi, the Commissioner of Parliament and Rubanda District Woman MP, has praised Kakore Rugambwa Catholic Parish for spearheading initiatives to improve the well-being of Christians.
Speaking yesterday at Kakore Catholic Parish Hall during the launch of the Kakore-Rugambwa Farmers and Traders Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited (SACCO), Hon. Akampurira emphasized the importance of trustworthiness and accountability among SACCO leaders. The SACCO, which has already registered about 1,000 members, was founded by the parish under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Deusdedit Manilagaba.
Hon. Akampurira highlighted the transformative potential of such community-driven projects in alleviating poverty. She urged other religious leaders to replicate similar initiatives to foster economic empowerment.
“As leaders, it is crucial to manage community resources with transparency and integrity. This is the only way to build trust and ensure the success of such initiatives,” Akampurira said.
To support the SACCO, she contributed UGX 10 million in cash, reiterating her commitment to community development and economic transformation. She also encouraged SACCO members to remain dedicated and actively participate in the cooperative’s growth.

Rev. Fr. Deusdedit Manilagaba, the Parish Priest of Kakore Catholic Parish, called on parents to utilize savings groups as a reliable source of funding for their children’s education. He noted that many parents often resort to selling their assets during the back-to-school period, leading to financial losses due to the drop in market value of properties and livestock.
“Savings groups provide a safer and more effective alternative for addressing financial challenges during critical periods like school reopening. Parents can borrow from these groups and repay later, ensuring their children remain in school without incurring losses,” Rev. Fr. Manilagaba explained.
