Rev. Fr. Vincent Ankunda, the Parish Priest of St. Peter’s Muchahi Catholic Parish, has urged the public to avoid excessive spending on alcohol and lavish food during the holiday season. Speaking at an event organized by Muchahi Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited (SACCO), Fr. Ankunda highlighted the negative health impacts of such behaviors.
The SACCO hosted a ceremony today to reward members who participated in the “Ekiterekye kya Christmas” promotion, which encouraged the purchase of shares between November 1st and December 20th, 2024. Fr. Ankunda emphasized the importance of moderation and responsible celebration, urging people to focus on health and well-being during the festive period.
During the event, Muchahi SACCO Manager Dianah Akampa announced that top participants in the promotion received prizes, including mattresses, blankets, goats, and chickens. She explained that the initiative was designed to attract more members and encourage the purchase of shares, which she described as the foundation of SACCO development.
Akampa also called on residents to embrace a culture of saving through financial institutions as a pathway to development.
Rubanda District Commercial Officer Moses Mukiza lauded Muchahi SACCO for its innovative approach to engaging members. He advised organizations to adopt creative strategies to attract new members, foster expansion, and promote saving money in financial institutions to curb unnecessary expenditure.
