Leaders and residents of Kashekye parish, Kamwezi Sub County in Rukiga District came together today at Nyakihanga Church of Uganda for a special fundraising service imed at raising funds for the construction of Medical Workers’ House at Nyakihanga Health Center II.

The health Center, which serves over 300 patients monthly with a team of five health workers, has long faced challenges due to inadequate accommodation for its staff. This lack of proper housing has significantly hindered effective service delivery in the area.

A large number of people gathered to contribute towards the construction project, emphasizing the importance of supporting healthcare workers who play a vital role in the well-being of the community.

In an interview, Amon Bonabana, the in-charge at Nyakihanga Health Center II, highlighted the significant challenges posed by the lack of accommodation. He says that health workers face long commutes, leading to fatigue and reduced efficiency adding that the absence of nearby housing means they are sometimes not readily available during emergencies, especially outside regular working hours, compromising patient care.

Bonabana further explained that safety concerns during travel, limited on-call availability, and the resulting inconsistent presence at the health Center exacerbate these issues, negatively impacting overall healthcare delivery.
